Due to significant growth, Dyson Energy Services, a renowned national installer of energy-saving solutions, announces its most extensive recruitment drive in over 40 years.
Since its humble beginnings over four decades ago, starting as a loft insulation service in West Yorkshire, Dyson has expanded to become a national entity, offering a wide array of insulation and renewable measures. Today, they proudly directly employ a versatile team of dedicated professionals spread across the UK.
The urgency to meet the government’s net zero emissions target by 2050, the escalating energy bills faced by homeowners, and the urgent call to combat climate change have intensified the demand for energy efficiency interventions. As per governmental data, an estimated 30 million homes in the UK need decarbonisation and retrofitting to counteract the inefficiencies of the country’s oldest residential structures.
In light of these needs, the government is pouring £6.6 billion into enhancing energy efficiency in buildings via numerous initiatives, many spearheaded by Dyson. An additional funding allocation of £6 billion is anticipated between 2025 to 2028.
Massive Demand for Skilled Workers: The Green Alliance states that there is a looming need for around 300,000 more proficient workers. This demand spans both newcomers to the market and the upskilling of current workers in the energy sector.
Heat Pump Installation Surge: According to the Heat Pump Association, by 2025, the industry will require 12,400 installers to set up 300,000 heat pumps annually. The demand will skyrocket to 50,200 installers by 2030 to manage the installation of a total of one million heat pumps.
Retrofitting Buildings Requires Upskilling: In the realm of building retrofitting, there’s an immediate need to upskill 12,000 workers each year for the initial four years. This number will grow substantially to 30,000 per year over the next decade, leading to an augmentation in the trained workforce by a staggering 230,000 individuals by 2030.
Booming Job Opportunities in Heat Network Sector: As we approach 2050, the heat network sector is projected to generate a plethora of job opportunities, potentially creating between 20,000 to 35,000 new direct jobs.
Manufacturing to Play a Crucial Role: Emphasising the importance of domestic manufacturing, scaling up the production of heat pumps to 300,000 units annually by 2025 could potentially catalyse the creation of over 10,000 dedicated manufacturing jobs.

Dyson’s recruitment drive aligns with the government’s recent introduction of the second phase of the Home Decarbonisation Skills Training competition, intended to assist installers like Dyson with retrofit training needs.

Mr. Morrall, having dedicated over 40 years to the sector, reflects, “I embarked on my journey in this industry as a young 16-year-old, starting as a Loft Insulation Technician at Dyson.”

They have taken proactive measures, collaborating with UK colleges and offering insights on Construction, Electrical, and Plumbing courses related to the energy efficiency industry.
Testament to their training excellence, Adam, a student from the Green Skills Insulation Boot Camp hosted by Coventry College, has been successfully inducted as a Cavity Wall Insulation Technician. He shares, “I joined Dyson Energy Services six months ago after attending a Green Skills Bootcamp. Joining Dyson has been career-changing for me personally. Being able to help communities very similar to the ones I was raised in has such a rewarding feeling. That feeling of making a difference.”
In a bid to inspire and inform, Dyson recently premiered a film showcasing employees candidly discussing their experiences in the sector.
